President Roosevelt Signed the National Housing Act in the United States

President Roosevelt Signed the National Housing Act in the United States

U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the National Housing Act, a landmark law in the history of real estate and housing finance.

Introduced during the Great Depression, the Act aimed to revive the struggling housing market, support the construction sector, and make home financing more stable for ordinary American citizens.

Under this Act, a federal mortgage insurance system was introduced, reducing the risk for lending institutions and helping restore confidence in housing finance at a time when foreclosures and economic uncertainty were widespread.

The law also played a major role in shaping the modern home loan market by encouraging long term mortgages and making homeownership more accessible.

Over time, the National Housing Act became one of the most influential housing policies in U.S. real estate history, leaving a lasting impact on mortgage lending, residential development, and the overall structure of the American housing market.

CDA Ordinance Issued to Develop Islamabad

CDA Ordinance Issued to Develop Islamabad

On this day, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Ordinance was promulgated, providing the legal foundation for the establishment of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to plan, regulate, and develop Islamabad as Pakistan’s new federal capital.

The ordinance formally defined the authority’s powers, responsibilities, and functions, including capital planning, land acquisition, sector development, municipal services, public infrastructure, and estate management. It empowered the CDA to guide residential, commercial, and civic development under a structured planning framework instead of allowing unplanned urban expansion.

This decision became a major milestone in Pakistan’s urban planning and real estate history, as Islamabad’s sector based layout, zoning regulations, and controlled property development were all shaped through this institutional framework.

Over time, the ordinance also influenced the planning and development of residential plots, housing schemes, roads, commercial markets, and public spaces across the capital. For Pakistan’s real estate sector, it marked the beginning of a more organized approach to urban development, land administration, and city governance, laying the foundation for Islamabad to emerge as one of the country’s most systematically planned cities.
