Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the authorities concerned to complete the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Flyover project in Hyderabad by the first week of July, stressing that no further delay will be tolerated in the public interest project.
Chairing a high level meeting at the Chief Minister House, Murad Ali Shah said he would personally visit Hyderabad in July to inaugurate the flyover and open it for traffic.
He directed provincial ministers Nasir Hussain Shah, Jam Khan Shoro and Haji Ali Hassan Zardari to coordinate closely with the relevant departments and ensure that the project is completed within the given timeline.
During the briefing, the chief minister was informed that the land acquisition process for the project had been completed in 2018. However, construction work could not move forward smoothly due to litigation and other administrative and technical issues, which caused prolonged delays in completion.
Officials told the meeting that the flyover was originally part of a federally funded road scheme designed to connect Hyderabad Bypass with Ghangra Mori on the left bank of Akram Wah. The project was planned to improve traffic flow, strengthen urban connectivity and provide relief to commuters facing congestion in Hyderabad.
The meeting was further informed that major civil work on the project had already been completed, including the casting of 24 bridge girders. Despite this progress, the flyover has remained unfinished due to unresolved technical, financial and administrative matters.
Expressing concern over the delay, Murad Ali Shah directed the departments concerned to immediately resume the remaining work and remove all hurdles affecting the project. He said the government wants the flyover completed without further excuses so that citizens can benefit from improved traffic movement and better road connectivity.
The chief minister said the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Flyover is an important infrastructure project for Hyderabad and will play a key role in reducing traffic pressure in the city once opened for public use.

The Sindh government has announced that the Malir Expressway, officially named Shahrah e Bhutto Expressway, will be fully opened for public traffic by the end of this month. The project is being described as a major development in Karachi’s transport and road infrastructure.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, while addressing a press conference in Karachi, said the project would provide the city with a direct and high speed link to the M 9 Motorway. According to him, the completion of the expressway would significantly improve traffic flow for people entering and leaving Karachi, particularly those travelling between urban areas, industrial zones and the motorway network.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said the opening of the corridor is expected to reduce commuters’ travel time by up to one hour. He described the project as one of Karachi’s most important infrastructure initiatives, saying it would ease pressure on existing roads and provide a faster alternative route for daily commuters as well as long distance travellers.
The 39 kilometre expressway has already been opened in different phases, while the remaining sections are expected to become fully operational during this month.
According to officials, more than 88 percent of the project had been completed earlier this year, while work was continuing on the remaining sections, associated structures and final connectivity points.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Sindh government is working on several road, bridge and underpass projects to improve mobility across Karachi. He added that a new road project is also being developed to connect Karachi Port with Taj Haider Bridge, which would improve freight movement and reduce pressure on key city routes.
According to the senior minister, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Karachi Port to Taj Haider Bridge road project is also expected around the time of the completion of Shahrah e Bhutto Expressway. He said the government wants to complete Karachi’s major infrastructure schemes as soon as possible to provide relief to citizens and strengthen the city’s transport network.
He further said work on bridges, underpasses, roads and other development projects is continuing under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and local government departments. Sharjeel Inam Memon said improving Karachi’s road infrastructure remains a priority for the Sindh government, as better connectivity is essential for economic activity, public convenience and urban development.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the Karachi Development Authority and the Local Government Department to speed up work on two major flyover projects planned for Power House Chowrangi and 4-K Chowrangi, as part of the provincial government’s efforts to reduce traffic congestion in Karachi.
The proposed projects, with a combined estimated cost of Rs. 4.87 billion, were reviewed during a high level meeting chaired by the chief minister at CM House. The meeting focused on ongoing infrastructure and road development schemes across the city, particularly projects aimed at improving traffic flow at major intersections.
According to the briefing, the proposed flyover at Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.5 billion. The project will include a 636 metre dual track elevated structure designed to separate through traffic from turning traffic at one of the area’s busiest junctions.
Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah informed the meeting that the Power House Chowrangi flyover would allow traffic heading toward 4-K Chowrangi to move without interruption, while vehicles turning toward Saba Cinema and Khwaja Ajmer Nagri would continue using ground level routes and service roads.
Officials said nearly 80 percent of through traffic is expected to use the elevated flyover once completed, significantly reducing pressure on the existing road network and improving movement for local commuters.
The meeting also reviewed the proposed Rs. 2.377 billion flyover project at 4-K Chowrangi. The project is aimed at ensuring smoother and uninterrupted traffic flow toward Surjani Town, where increasing traffic volumes have created frequent bottlenecks and long delays.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab told the meeting that around 70 percent of traffic passing through 4-K Chowrangi currently moves toward Surjani Town, making the intersection one of the key congestion points in the area.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the departments concerned to finalize planning for both projects and ensure that the flyovers are designed in line with future traffic requirements. He said Karachi’s growing transport needs must be addressed through long term infrastructure planning and timely execution of development schemes.
