The divisional administration has stepped up enforcement actions against illegal constructions and encroachments along the under construction Multan Avenue Road project, signaling a zero tolerance policy toward violations that hinder public infrastructure development.
The directives were issued during a high level meeting chaired by Commissioner Amir Karim Khan on Tuesday, where officials reviewed ongoing development work and regulatory challenges associated with the Multan Avenue corridor. Emphasizing strict compliance with urban planning rules, the commissioner ordered an across the board crackdown on buildings constructed in violation of approved maps, setback requirements, and commercialization policies.
Authorities have been directed to immediately remove illegal ramps, unauthorized access points, and all forms of encroachments obstructing service roads. The commissioner underscored that projects funded through public resources must remain free from illegal occupation, adding that no leniency would be shown in enforcing regulations.
To streamline the operation, the Multan Development Authority (MDA) and District Council have been tasked with compiling a comprehensive record of all unauthorized constructions along the route. The goal is to ensure that service roads remain fully accessible for public use and that future violations are effectively prevented.
In a move to sustain enforcement, the commissioner also ordered the formation of a dedicated patrolling unit. This unit will monitor the corridor regularly and take immediate action against illegal road cuts, fresh encroachments, and any damage to public property.
Senior officials, including MDA Additional Director General Attaul Haq and Director Development Multan Division Mubashirur Rehman, were present during the meeting.
Separately, the commissioner visited the under construction road connecting Nag Shah Flyover to Sher Shah Interchange, where he reviewed progress and directed the contractor to complete the Rs119 million project within two months. He stressed strict adherence to timelines and construction quality standards.
The 3.05 kilometre road project is expected to significantly improve connectivity between the motorway and Multan city, helping ease traffic congestion and enhance urban mobility. The project includes a 24 foot wide dual carriageway on both sides, modern carpeting, and supporting infrastructure.
According to XEN Highways Haider Ali, the development plan incorporates 8-inch asphalt layering, application of tack coat, lane markings, installation of 2,376 cat’s eyes, and 10 road signboards.
Officials noted that the project addresses a long-standing demand for improved traffic management and urban connectivity in Multan, and once completed, it is expected to bring substantial relief to daily commuters.

The Punjab government is implementing sewerage development projects worth Rs25.8 billion in Multan to resolve long-standing drainage and sanitation issues in the city. Officials said the initiative is part of a broader plan to upgrade urban infrastructure and improve municipal services for residents.
According to provincial authorities, the projects include the expansion and rehabilitation of the sewerage network, construction of new sewer lines and improvement of stormwater drainage systems. The development work is expected to reduce waterlogging in low-lying areas and enhance the overall efficiency of wastewater disposal.
Officials said the schemes will also involve the installation of modern pumping stations and the rehabilitation of aging sewerage infrastructure, which has been under pressure due to rapid population growth and urban expansion in the city. The projects are expected to benefit thousands of households and commercial areas across Multan.
The provincial government noted that strengthening sewerage infrastructure is essential to prevent urban flooding during the monsoon season and to improve public health conditions. Authorities believe the initiative will significantly enhance sanitation standards, environmental quality and urban mobility in the city.
Work on several components of the sewerage development programme has already started, and officials expressed hope that the projects will help address persistent civic complaints related to drainage problems and stagnant water in various parts of Multan.

In the Arsa Pali area, Survey No. 249 had previously been designated as government property, with official boards installed. Despite this, complaints of unauthorized construction emerged. Tehsildar North intervened promptly, halting the ongoing activities and submitting a detailed report to senior authorities. Part of the disputed land is under court proceedings, while construction continues on other sections. Further action will follow in accordance with court and administrative directives. In another part of North Mandal, adjacent to forest land where construction is prohibited, some individuals allegedly occupied government land, sold it to others, and attempted to construct double-bedroom houses, causing disputes. Additionally, in Survey No. 1581, claims surfaced of unauthorized construction on government land, allegedly under the pretext of housing approvals, raising public concerns. A former local representative has also been linked to multiple land occupation allegations. Sources indicate that he was previously associated with a political party, was suspended, and later joined the ruling party. He is accused of continuing disputed activities while using the name of a senior political leader, though these claims have not been legally verified. A related case involving 13 individuals is pending at the 6th Town Police Station. Local residents have expressed concern that illegal occupation and misuse of government land, along with false promises of housing approvals, are damaging the credibility of legitimate initiatives such as the Indra Housing Scheme. Citizens are urging the newly appointed District Collector to conduct a comprehensive investigation, ensure protection of all government property, and take strict action against land grabbers. Community members emphasize that only transparent verification of land records, immediate removal of illegal constructions, and enforcement of legal action can restore public confidence and safeguard government property. Authorities have confirmed that the matter is under review through court and administrative procedures, with further steps to be taken in accordance with existing laws.
