Government of Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has announced that accumulated municipal waste will be utilized for energy generation under the “Waste to Value” initiative, a key component of the province’s Suthra Punjab Programme.
The minister made the remarks while chairing a meeting at the Civil Secretariat to review progress on the Waste to Value phase of the programme, launched on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian and Director General of the Suthra Punjab Authority Babar Sahib Din, along with other senior officials.
Officials were informed that thousands of tonnes of municipal waste collected from urban areas would be processed through modern technologies to generate energy. Authorities said the initiative is expected to strengthen urban waste management systems, improve environmental conditions, and promote sustainable energy solutions across the province.

Under the directives of Maryam Nawaz, a special tree plantation drive has been launched along the city’s canal to improve its aesthetic appeal and environmental quality.
Raja Mansoor Ahmed, MD of PHDA, stated that thousands of trees will be planted along the canal as part of the project to enhance greenery and create a more visually appealing urban landscape.
Officials added that the initiative will not only improve the city’s environment but also provide recreational and ecological benefits to residents. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly elevate the beauty of the city’s central areas.

Provincial Minister for Health and Emergency Services Khawaja Salman Rafique has announced that the construction of 33 new rescue stations across Punjab will be completed soon as part of efforts to enhance emergency response services and improve public safety infrastructure.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting chaired by the minister to review coordination mechanisms for patient transfer to teaching hospitals operating under the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department of Punjab.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Health, Punjab, Azmat Mahmood, and the Secretary of Emergency Services, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, along with other senior officials.
During the session, officials were briefed on the progress of the 33 under-construction rescue stations. Authorities emphasized that expanding emergency infrastructure will significantly strengthen the province’s rescue network and ensure quicker response during emergencies.
