The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority has launched a comprehensive campaign across Malakand district and the Mardan region to identify and register unregistered housing societies.
The initiative aims to bring major real estate projects into the formal tax net to ensure transparency, legal compliance and improved revenue collection. KPRA teams have started field visits to verify the registration status of various housing and development schemes.
In a parallel development, special investment incentives have been announced for the Dargai Industrial Zone. Investors can benefit from tax free status and up to 27 percent savings on electricity costs. In addition, a 25 percent rebate is being offered to industries that become operational within the first year of establishment, making the area an attractive destination for commercial growth.
Real estate experts say that with the enforcement of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Schemes Regulations 2024, developers are now required to comply with official standards. They added that due to Malakand’s strategic location near CPEC connected routes, demand for residential and commercial properties in the district has increased by more than 60 percent.
The administration has advised citizens to verify the registration status of any housing scheme from the relevant Tehsil Municipal Administration before purchasing a plot to avoid possible legal complications.

The reconstruction work on the flood affected N 95 Kalam Road in Swat is expected to begin within the next 90 days, the National Assembly was informed on Wednesday.
The matter was raised through a calling attention notice moved by MNA Amjad Ali Khan, who drew the House’s attention towards delays in the rehabilitation of the important road link damaged during the devastating floods of 2022.
Responding to the notice, the parliamentary secretary informed the National Assembly that the government had already approved Rs 415 million for the reconstruction and repair of the N 95 Kalam Road. He said the project was being processed to ensure that practical work could start within the announced timeframe.
The House was further informed that an additional amount of Rs 276 million had also been allocated for the project. Besides this, another Rs 950 million has been proposed in the upcoming budget to support the completion of the road’s rehabilitation work.
The N 95 Kalam Road is considered a vital route for local residents, tourism, trade, and access to upper parts of Swat, including Kalam and surrounding areas. Its damage during the 2022 floods severely affected mobility, local economic activity, and tourism-related businesses in the region.
Lawmakers stressed the need for timely reconstruction of the road, saying the delay had continued to create serious difficulties for residents, transporters, and visitors. The government assured the House that the project would be taken forward on priority and that work would begin within the next three months.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s Standing Committee on Communications and Works has expressed serious concern over slow progress on key development projects, particularly the reconstruction and rehabilitation of flood-damaged roads and bridges in South Waziristan and Upper Dir.
The committee met under the chairmanship of Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani on Wednesday to review the implementation of decisions taken in its previous meeting and assess progress on ongoing development schemes across the province.
The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Alam, committee members Muhammad Yamin Khan, Zubair Khan, Arifa Bibi, Asma Alam, Farah Khan and Shahida Waheed, along with the Secretary Communications and Works Department, officials from the Law Department and representatives of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed directives issued in its earlier session held on December 21, 2024. Members voiced concern that despite the passage of considerable time, only limited progress had been made on a major development project involving the reconstruction and rehabilitation of flood-affected roads and bridges in South Waziristan and Upper Dir.
Chairman Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani observed that the slow pace of work on such important infrastructure projects was unacceptable, particularly in areas where public mobility and local economic activity remained badly affected due to damaged roads and bridges.
Briefing the committee, the Secretary Communications and Works Department said that three inquiries into the project had been completed. He informed the panel that several senior officers had been demoted as a result of the inquiries, while recovery of Rs82 million from various contractors had also been recommended.
However, the secretary said that five contractors had obtained a stay order from the High Court against the recovery process, which has remained in effect since August 2023. He added that the department was facing difficulties in pursuing the matter effectively due to a lack of adequate resources for strong legal representation.
Taking notice of the situation, the committee chairman directed the department to immediately submit a summary for hiring senior legal counsel. He said effective representation before the High Court was necessary to seek vacation of the stay order so that recovery and accountability proceedings could move forward without further delay.
MPA Muhammad Yamin Khan also drew the committee’s attention to the deteriorating condition of roads and bridges in Upper Dir. He said several structures damaged by floods years ago had still not been reconstructed or repaired, causing serious problems for local communities.
In response, the chairman ordered the formation of a subcommittee to visit Upper Dir, inspect ongoing and completed development projects, and submit a detailed report to the standing committee.
Committee members also raised concern over the poor condition of major roads in Mardan district. The standing committee directed the relevant authorities to take immediate and practical measures for the repair and restoration of these roads in order to reduce public difficulties and improve transport conditions in the area.
