A 3.5-magnitude earthquake was felt in Kalat district on Saturday, affecting a broad area and causing temporary panic among residents in the district headquarters and surrounding settlements. Local authorities and geologists confirmed that while the tremors were widely felt, no major structural damage has been reported so far.
Residents reported shaking in both urban and rural areas, prompting officials to inspect vulnerable buildings and monitor land for any signs of instability or minor landslides, which can be common in the region due to hilly terrain. Emergency services were placed on alert to respond to any incidents related to the tremor.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised local communities to remain cautious, avoid overcrowded structures, and follow safety guidelines in case of aftershocks. While the quake’s magnitude is relatively low, ongoing monitoring of the district’s land stability is being conducted to prevent potential risks to residential and commercial areas.
Geologists highlighted that Balochistan, being located near active fault lines, regularly experiences minor to moderate seismic activity. Authorities stressed the importance of community awareness, early warning systems, and preparedness to minimise hazards to land, infrastructure, and property.
Residents of Kalat district were urged to report any structural cracks, landslides, or other unusual land movement to local authorities for immediate assessment. Officials reassured the public that all precautionary measures are being taken to ensure safety and to safeguard ongoing development and urban projects in the region.
